A PATH OF SELF-EXPRESSION
noonoouri is the CGI creation of German designer Joerg Zuber. “I was an introverted child so I decided to think about a best friend through whom I could communicate,” Zuber says. “I was five when I had the idea for noonoouri. Seeing her come to life for the first time and standing next to Barbie is deeply touching to me.”
Zuber also connected to Barbie in childhood, but he “could not tell my parents, as it was not ‘appropriate’ for boys to play with dolls and dresses or be fascinated about the world of fashion and beauty.” Barbie represented the freedom to be accepted, in a world filled with possibilities. “With her,” Zuber says, “I could be anyone I wanted to be.”
