In the automotive world, classic vehicles are selling at all-time highs – especially the unique ones. Vehicles from the 1990s and early 2000s have become modern classics as enthusiasts love to geek out over their unique styles and characteristics, along with their uncanny performance. These vehicles are constantly setting records at auction, and the latest mix of Hot Wheels Car Culture brings you five Modern Classics for which modern car enthusiasts are constantly searching. We’re making them available here for you!
This case pack includes two (2) of each of the following:
- ’92 BMW M3
- ’98 Honda Prelude (New diecast chassis!)
- Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 (New casting!)
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI (New casting!)
- Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (New diecast chassis!)
Check all the modern classic wish lists in the automotive world and they almost always contain the Nissan 300ZX. Also referred to as the Z32, this generation of the famous Z was one of the first automobiles to be designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software – all it took was a late ’80s supercomputer to be able to do so! The result was a body that was wider and rounder than the previous generation, just in time for a period of automotive design where this would become the new norm. The Hot Wheels Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo makes its premium debut here, and the casting receives a diecast chassis for the first time! We’ve dressed this one in bright yellow and given it Real Riders so you can admire it in all its ’90s T-top, twin turbo glory.
The Hot Wheels ’92 BMW M3 returns to the Car Culture / Modern Classics series. Rightfully so, as it was originally included in our first mix back in 2017 because it's another ’90s-era driving machine that tops modern wish lists among automotive enthusiasts. The ’92 BMW M3 was the first year of the E36 generation of the M3, introducing the straight-six-cylinder performance the model has been known for. This 2021 Car Culture release comes in a clean, contemporary gray that we know modern enthusiasts will love.
The fifth-generation Honda Prelude introduced a sporty compact that is beloved by many. Our Hot Wheels ’98 Honda Prelude casting was designed by one of its biggest fans, the late Ryu Asada. He designed it after the 1997 Honda Prelude SiR (1998 in the US) his parents owned in Japan. The casting was introduced just last year, and now makes its premium debut sporting Real Riders and a diecast chassis for the first time.
The 2021 rendition of the Car Culture / Modern Classics series concludes with two castings that Hot Wheels collectors have been requesting for years: the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI and the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4. Both make their first edition debut and are mean Mitsubishi cars that were classics the day they rolled off the assembly line. In the late ‘90s, Mitsubishi increased the performance of the Evo 6, allowing for it to be more mechanically sound than the 5, as well as giving it an edgier facelift. Around the same time, the 3000GT was one of the coolest cars of the ’90s and the VR-4 was famously done in Caracas Red – which we've captured here with this casting’s first release!
