BEHIND THE DESIGN
“The Mogao Caves, also known as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, are located in Dunhuang, China,” Joyce explains. “The doll is inspired by the paintings found in these caves.”

“The shawl is an important feature on this doll,” Joyce says. “The paintings of celestial beings are all seen with a shawl to represent the feeling of flying and movement.”
