Virtual collectible Frequently Asked Questions
What is a virtual collectible?
Virtual collectibles are unique items inspired by your favorite Mattel brands – and there's nothing else like them out there. Every one of our virtual collectibles is individually numbered, so each one has its own specific value. They feature built-in authentication that serves as proof of ownership. And some are tied to highly desired real-world redeemables.

How do I purchase virtual collectibles?
You can purchase virtual collectibles by buying virtual collectible packs at Mattel Creations, just as you would buy physical items from our shop. Please note, all sales of virtual collectibles on Mattel Creations are final.

How do Mattel's virtual collectibles affect the environment?
We mint our virtual collectibles on Flow, which uses a “proof-of-stake" consensus mechanism. This is more energy efficient than a “proof-of-work” mechanism. As a result, Flow requires less energy to mint an virtual collectible than it does for you to post an image on Instagram. For more information, visit https://flow.com/sustainability.

Is a virtual collectible the same thing as cryptocurrency?
Virtual collectibles and cryptocurrency are generally built using the same type of programming, known as the blockchain, but they aren't the same. Each virtual collectible has a digital signature that makes it unique (non-fungible), like owning a piece of art. Cryptocurrencies are "fungible," meaning that each one is worth the same as any other. For example, one Bitcoin is worth one Bitcoin, just like a $1 bill is worth the same as any other $1 bill.

What is a wallet?
A wallet is where the virtual collectibles you own are stored. It's a bit like an online login account (like your account at Mattel Creations), but contains a unique address that only your wallet has.

How do I get a wallet?
At Mattel Creations, when you purchase virtual collectible packs from us, a wallet will be created for you within your account when you claim your first virtual collectible pack.

Can I use my own wallet to manage my Mattel Creations virtual collectibles?
Not at this time.

How do I keep my Mattel Creations wallet safe?
Your wallet will be a part of your Mattel Creations account. To keep it secure, make sure you keep your Mattel Creations account information secure. Don’t share your login information with anyone. If you suspect that your password has been compromised, change it immediately. If you’re unable to recover your account access, contact customer service.

What is Flow?
Flow is the blockchain used to mint our virtual collectibles for Mattel Creations. Flow is a fast, decentralized, and popular blockchain, designed as the foundation for a new generation of games, apps, and the digital assets that power them.

Do I need cryptocurrency to buy virtual collectibles?
No. All Mattel Creations virtual collectibles can be bought through the Mattel Creations online store using US dollars ($), or other national currencies converted into dollars.

Do any physical products come with your virtual collectibles?
Some of our virtual collectible drops will include physical products. For more information, see the Product Page for each virtual collectible drop.

Do I need a Mattel Creations account to buy virtual collectibles?
You’ll need a Mattel Creations account to claim any virtual collectibles you purchase, to open packs, and to view them in your collection.

What are drops?
A drop is the release and sale of a new virtual collectible collection. Each drop has brand-new virtual collectibles that are sold in packs.

Is there a limited amount of virtual collectibles in a drop?
Yes. Every drop has a fixed number of packs that can be minted. You can find this information on the Product Page for the drop in the online shop.

How do I find out about upcoming drops?
All upcoming virtual collectible drops will be announced on Mattel Creations. Make sure to sign up for our newsletter so you never miss a drop.

Where do you announce and promote the release of virtual collectibles?
All upcoming virtual collectible drops will be announced on Mattel Creations; the official (verified) social media accounts for Mattel Creations and the brand related to the drop; and Mattel’s Discord server.

Do Mattel’s partners promote virtual collectibles?
Although our partners and fans may share news about virtual collectible drops we release, the safest way to access our virtual collectibles is to only click on links shared from Mattel Creations; official (verified) Mattel social media accounts; and Mattel’s Discord server.

What are packs?
A pack includes a set number of virtual collectibles you can buy directly from Mattel Creations. Packs can be opened, which burns (destroys) the virtual collectible pack from your wallet and mints (creates) the virtual collectibles contained in the pack to your collection. The number of virtual collectibles in a pack depends on the drop, and is listed on the Product Page in the online shop.

What are the steps to buying a pack?
Go to the Product Page in the online shop for the pack you wish to buy while the pack is in stock, and the sale is active. Click "Add to Cart" on that page. You'll be taken to the Cart page from there.

On the Cart page, adjust the quantity (number of packs) you wish to buy (if you want to buy more than one pack), then click "Checkout" on the cart page.

On the Checkout page, fill in your payment information and complete your order. After buying your pack, you’ll receive an email with instructions to claim and open your pack.

Can I buy multiple virtual collectible packs from a single drop?
You may buy multiple packs as long as supplies last.

How many packs can I purchase at a time?
Refer to the Product Page for each drop in the online shop for details, including potential transaction limits.

What does it mean to “claim a pack”?

Can I claim all of my purchased packs at once?

Do unopened packs expire?
No, you may keep your pack unopened as long as you want.

Do unclaimed packs expire?

I can’t find my packs. What do I do?
First go to your Order History on your Mattel Creations account with the same email you used to purchase the packs, and find your purchase. Check if the status on the packs is claimed or unclaimed. If unclaimed, click the Claim button to claim the packs. If the packs have already been claimed, you can find them in My Collections.

How do I open my packs?
Make sure you have claimed your packs, and find them in My Collections. Click the "Open Pack" button. Then click "Approve" on the blockchain transaction window. Your pack will now open and display the new virtual collectibles.

My Flow blockchain transaction to open a pack failed. What do I do?

How do I see all the virtual collectibles in a drop?

What are traits?
Traits are specific aspects that differentiate the virtual collectibles in a drop from each other. For example, think of a car’s make, model, trim package, options, and paint color as “traits.”

What are "splits" and "counts"?
"Splits" refers to the number of copies of a virtual collectible, typically tied to that virtual collectible’s rarity. "Count" refers to the number of virtual collectibles at a given rarity. A real-world way to think of this is if you have 3 pieces of art ("count"), and have 100 prints of each ("splits").

What does “rarity” mean?
Rarity describes how likely a given virtual collectible is to be found in a pack. There are two systems used to identify rarity on our virtual collectibles.

In a standard drop, there may be up to seven rarities in the drop. From the highest split count to the lowest, the rarities are Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Ultra Rare, Exclusive, and Unique. Each rarity is directly tied to the split count of that virtual collectible. All virtual collectibles at that rarity share the same amount of splits.

In a collection where all virtual collectibles are unique (1 of 1s), the rarity describes how likely it is that a single virtual collectible with that specific collection of traits would be minted.

In either case, the rarity of our virtual collectibles will be clearly labeled on the Catalog page for the drop, or the Product Page in the online shop.

What is a mint number?
When more than one of the same type of virtual collectible is minted, each one has a mint number to make it unique. For example, if 100 of a specific virtual collectible are minted, each one will have a different mint number from 1 to 100.

Is there a limit to how many virtual collectibles I can have?
There is no limit to the number of virtual collectibles you can have. Each drop has a fixed amount of virtual collectibles that are minted, so you will only be able to get new virtual collectibles while supplies last.

Can I return or exchange an virtual collectible?
All sales of virtual collectibles on Mattel Creations are final. virtual collectibles can’t be exchanged or returned for a refund.
