Meet Rebecca Shipman

Rockstar Designer and expert in all things spooky.

How would you describe your artistic style to someone who has never seen your work?

I’m a spooky kind of girl so my art usually leans toward the spookier side of things. It’s a little dark but sweet, eerie but pretty, kind of weird and funny… all at the same time.

Explain your connection to Monster High?

Oh my ghoul! When I saw the original Monster High dolls for the first time right after they launched, I freaked out. I couldn’t believe how beautiful these monster-y dolls were! I knew at that moment I had to work on this brand. Long story short, miracles happened. Within a few months, Garrett Sander hired me to design for Monster High! I’m so honored to have helped create some memorable monster characters.

Explain your connection to Beetlejuice?

I absolutely love the movie: the characters, the costumes, the set design and the soundtrack. Everything about it is awesome! Especially the ghost with the most, Beetlejuice. I was a little goth girl in the making back then and looked very similar to Lydia Deetz. So much so that Lydia became my nickname for years after the movie came out.

What does this particular drop mean to you?

It means a lot. I can’t wait for fans to freak out over these dolls. That BIG Acid Green Hair. The black and white striped suit. Lydia’s adorbs hat. And the shoes! Our sculptor killed it with those heels. GORE-geous and so exciting!
