Barbie honors the rich tradition of the Lunar New Year holiday, which begins with the first new moon and ends with the first full moon of the lunar calendar.
BEHIND THE DESIGN
“I was inspired by the costumes from the Peking Opera play ‘The Peony Pavilion,’ which is also known as the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ of the East,” says designer Joyce Chen.
THE DETAILS
The crown-style headdress, an important accessory, is “adorned with ruby red jewels, royal golden details, and peonies to match the design of the robe,” Joyce says.
