MEET YLA EASON
Behind every superhero is a mom. And when a three-year-old boy feared he could never be a superhero because of his skin color, his mother took action. Yla Eason created Sun-Man to address the lack of representation in comics and action figures in the 1980s. We couldn’t be prouder to reintroduce Sun-Man, and his story, to you today!
MEET ED DUNCAN
Every superhero needs a superpower, and Yla found that with Ed Duncan, SVP, Head of Design at Mattel. Because her story resonated with him in a way that nothing had before, Ed reached out to Yla to discuss bringing Sun-Man into He-Man’s universe (MOTU). To him, this project was about more than creating a toy—it was about recognizing the importance of inclusivity.
