Barbie honors the rich cultural roots of this holiday with a festive creation inspired by classic hanfu robes. The gown’s flowing silhouette is a nod to the flight of celestial beings. It features traditional Chinese prints influenced by woodblock art from the Tang dynasty. The hues of the gown are taken from the color palette of ancient Dunhuang cave paintings. Her look is complete with long dark tresses, a pearl hair accessory, and dangling pearl earrings.

CELESTIAL STYLE
We’re starstruck by doll designer Joyce Chen’s creation. Elegant and collectible, the gown’s details symbolize good fortune during this holiday, a traditional time of family togetherness.
BEHIND THE DESIGN
“The Mogao Caves, also known as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, are located in Dunhuang, China,” Joyce explains. “The doll is inspired by the paintings found in these caves.”
THE DETAILS
“The shawl is an important feature on this doll,” Joyce says. “The paintings of celestial beings are all seen with a shawl to represent the feeling of flying and movement.”
